Confederate General Army Service Coat Button - Cast C.S.A

SOLD

Item: Confederate General Army Service Coat Button - Cast C.S.A
Backmark: Blank
Design: Raised letters "C.S.A" on a plain field with a raised rim.
Construction: Convex, one-piece.
Approximate size: 22 mm.
Condition: Very good, excavated, shank present. This solid cast brass button has a very pleasing brown-green patina with yellow soil residue primarily in areas of the rim. The letters "C.S.A" show moderate wear. The button in hand, under normal room lighting, is much better looking than my high-resolution images show in this listing. It has no cracks, breaks, bends, or repairs.
Recovered: September 18, 1984 - Highland Springs, VA.
Reference: Tice: CSG210A1 Albert: CS 86
Comments:  These buttons are not often recovered. It was acquired directly from the family of E. V. Smith. Mr. Smith, a lifelong Virginia relic hunter, thoughtfully recorded this relic's actual date and location of recovery. The digger's label will be included. This excavated "C.S.A" coat button will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War button or general relic collection.
