PC1870
Alabama Volunteer Corps Cuff Button
This excavated Alabama Volunteer Corps two piece cuff button is in good
condition. It is believed that this button was recovered from the
Fredericksburg, Va. area. The face still has a good amount of gold
still showing and has no cracks, breaks, or pushes. The rear, which
has a slight push, still retains a solid shank which is bent over.
Attached to the shank as well as the button back is a small piece of iron
which may have been looped through the shank at some point, with the rest of
it disintegrating with time in the ground. The back mark is that of
"Robinsons / Extra" and is a depressed mark. The rear has no cracks or
breaks and the button has not been repaired. This button is a
difficult button to find and will make for a nice addition to any button
collection.
Ref. Albert's
AB 2A and Tice's AB210As1. Approx. 15 mm. SOLD

North Carolina State Seal Button
This excavated North Carolina "local" coat button showing the state seal was
manufactured by W. Wildt & Son of Richmond, VA. The back mark is blank
and the shank, drilled from sheet metal, is present and nearly straight up. Even
though these buttons were crudely produced from poor quality metal they are
still very attractive. North Carolina is
spelled out around the upper edge and the two female figures on the front,
"Liberty" and "Plenty", can still be easily seen. This very attractive
button was recovered by Dennis Irvin of Fauquier County, VA during the late
seventies into the early eighties. During that time Mr. Irvin hunted
many Civil War sites in Fauquier and surrounding counties. Ref.
Albert's NC 8 and Tice's NC210. Approx. 23 mm. $165.00
