             US Infantry Overcoat Button

This excavated Union infantry coat button is in excellent condition.  Its face is covered with a shiny gold wash with the exception of an area just to the left of the eagle's right wing.  The rear has the " * D. EVANS & CO * / ATTLEBORO MASS" depressed backmark along with an inner ring of vertical hyphens.  The shank is secure and straight up.  This button is a very fine example with no pushes, cracks, breaks or repairs and will make an excellent addition to any Civil War button or general relic collection.  Ref.               Six Eagle Coat Buttons - Two Overcoat Size

These six eagle buttons were all recovered from western Hanover County, VA in the area of the battle of North Anna.  All of the buttons have shanks and are in good condition.  Two of the buttons are the overcoat size (23 mm) which appear to have some of gold wash still showing through the remaining dirt. One of these buttons has a dent in the side which is not a recent strike as there is no shiny brass showing through.  All of the buttons have a very pleasing light green patina and all will make an excellent display for any general relic collection.   SOLD

                 US Staff Officer Cuff Button

This excavated two-piece US general staff cuff button is in very good condition.  The face of the button has plenty of gold gilt with the exception of some of the high points.  The rear has a secure nearly straight-up shank and a blank backmark.  The button was recovered from the Dalton, Georgia area and it has no pushes, cracks, breaks or repairs.  This high grade cuff button is an excellent example to add to any excavated Civil War button or general relic collection.  Approx. 15 mm.  $25.00   Order Information  or  Questions?

                Union Infantry Button
 
This Union infantry coat button is in very good condition, is covered with a shiny gold wash, and is as solid as they come.  The rear has the "SCHUYLER" rmdc back mark but due to a poor stamping it's difficult to determine exactly which SCHUYLER mark it is.  The shank is secure and straight up.  Recovered

                Alabama Volunteer Corps Cuff Button

This Alabama Volunteer Corps two piece cuff button is in very good condition and was excavated by Chris Haas in northern Virginia in the 1970's.  The front of the button shows an eagle with the letters "AVC" directly above.  There are some traces of gold gilt still around the eagles neck and wings.  The rear as a secure straight up shank and at one time had a backmark of "HORSTMANN & CO / .NY." dm, with an inner ring of rays.  The backmark is no longer visible, but the inner ring of rays still are.  This fine Confederate button has no pushes, cracks, breaks or repairs and will make an excellent addition to any excavated button or general relic collection.  Ref.                Hillsborough Military Academy Button

This excavated Hillsborough Military Academy button is an outstanding example.  This button was dug in the 2nd line of defenses of the Warwick River Line in upper Newport News not from where Big Bethel and Dam #1 were fought.  The perfect face of the button shows plenty of gold gilt against a very pleasing chocolate brown patina.  The rear has the backmark of "SCHUYLER. H. & G. / N. YORK" dm along with a solidly attached straight up shank.  The button has no pushes, cracks, breaks or repairs.  This button is, without a doubt, a very fine specimen and will enhance any Civil War button or general relic collection.  Ref. This Wisconsin state seal coat button is in very good condition.  The face of the button is loaded with gold gilt with the exception of the center shield and a few high areas.  The rear has a straight up shank which is intact and solid.  The back mark of  -*- EXTRA -*- / QUALITY" dm is present.  This button has no pushes, cracks, breaks, or repairs and will make an excellent addition to any excavated button collection.   Ref.                   Connecticut State Seal Button

This excavated two-piece brass Connecticut state seal button is in fair condition and was recovered near Vicksburg, MI.  The face of this button has a push and about 35% gold wash still remaining.  The rear has a minor push and a partially legible back mark of " * SCOVILL MF'G CO. * / WATERBURY." dm.  The shank is secure and nearly straight up.   Ref.                     South Carolina State Seal Button

This excavated two-piece brass South Carolina state seal coat button is in very good condition.  Overall, the button has an even brown patina with traces of gold gilt in and around the palmetto tree.  There is a tiny push to the mid to lower right side of the face but is hardly noticeable.  The rear is in very good condition and has the partially legible back mark of  " *** YOUNG . SMITH & CO *** / NEW YORK" dm.  The shank is secure and straight up and this button will be a nice addition to any excavated button collection.  Ref.                      Five Zouave or Ball Buttons

                                  Virginia Militia Button

This non-excavated Virginia militia two piece coat button is in excellent condition and has a very nice aged brass patina.  The rear has a straight shank and a back mark of "KENT.PAINE & CO. / RICHMOND *.*.* "  rmdc.  The "VA" in the back mark is obliterated by stars which is normal for this button.  This example is an exceptionally nice and will make an excellent addition to any button or general Civil War relic collection.  Ref.                 Virginia State Seal Button

This excavated Virginia state seal two piece coat button is in good condition and has a pleasing chocolate brown patina.  The shank is solidly affixed and leaning at an angle.  The back mark is that of ". Horstmann & Allien  / . N Y." dm.  The button has no cracks, breaks or repairs.  There are no pushes to the face but there is a slight push to the rear.  This button will make a very nice addition to any excavated relic collection.   Ref.                     Wisconsin State Arms Cuff Button

This two piece Wisconsin cuff button is in very good condition and was recovered in the from Berkley Plantation in Charles City County, VA.  The button front has plenty of gold wash still remaining and shows the the Wisconsin State Arms which was designed in 1851 by Govenor Nelson Dewey and Edward Ryan while sitting on the front steps of a New York City bank.  The design consists of a plow for agriculture, an anchor for trade, an arm grasping a hammer for manufacturing and a crossed shovel and pick representing mining all within a shield in the center of the button supported by a sailor and an yeoman.  The crest is a badger with the motto "FORWARD" on a streamer above.  Below the shield are a cornucopia and a pyramid of pig lead.  The rear has a solidly attached shank which is nearly straight up and a difficult-to-read back mark believed to be that of "* EXTRA * / QUALITY" dm.  This button has no cracks, breaks, bends or repairs and will make a fine addition to any button collection.  Ref.                Confederate Staff Officer Button

This non-excavated 2 piece Confederate officer staff coat button has a back mark of  "RIVET'D & SOLDER'D" including the lion, unicorn and coat of arms.  This button has a beautiful aged brass patina stand-up shank and is in excellent condition.  There are no pushes, cracks, breaks or repairs and is from a collection of relics assembled in northern Va. over several decades.  Ref. This non-excavated high convex three piece Virginia Militia button is in excellent condition.  The back mark of "*Extra* / Quality" is present and the shank is straight up.  The button has a very pleasing aged dull brass patina and has no pushes, cracks, breaks or repairs.  This item is from a collection of Civil War relics assembled in northern Va. over several decades.  Ref.                Confederate Script Infantry Button

This handsome two piece Confederate script infantry coat button is in excellent good condition and was excavated from Hatcher's Run in Dinwiddie County, VA.  It has a very pleasing chocolate brown patina and a moderately well defined script letter I on the face.  The back mark of "S. ISAACS CAMPBELL & Co / LONDON / 71 JERMYN. ST" is partially visible with a loupe under good lighting and the shank is straight up and secure.  There are no pushes, cracks, breaks or repairs.  Ref. This Confederate artillery button with a tin back is in excellent condition.  The brass face has a very pleasing olive green patina and is basically flawless for being excavated.  The shank is secure and straight up.  This beautiful button has no cracks, breaks, pushes or repairs and is from a collection out of Petersburg, VA.  Ref.  This excavated two piece Confederate script infantry coat button is in excellent condition.  The front of this button has a brown patina still lightly covered with the soil it came from.  The back mark of "S.               North Carolina State Seal Button

This excavated North Carolina "local" coat button showing the state seal was manufactured by W. Wildt & Son of Richmond, VA.  The back mark is blank and the shank, drilled from sheet metal, is present and nearly straight up.  Even though these buttons were crudely produced from poor quality metal they are still very attractive.  North Carolina is spelled out around the upper edge and the two female figures on the front, "Liberty" and "Plenty", can still be easily seen.  This very attractive button was recovered by Dennis Irvin of Fauquier County, VA during the late seventies into the early eighties.  During that time Mr. Irvin hunted many Civil War sites in Fauquier and surrounding counties.  Ref. This is a particularly fine example of an excavated Roman block “I” Confederate two piece coat infantry button with a tin back.  This button has a perfect face with a smooth un-cleaned chocolate brown patina.  The reverse, although rusty, is completely intact including the shank.  There are no cracks, breaks, pushes or repairs. 23mm.  Ref.
