100 Pounder Parrott Shell Nose Section

This is a section of the nose to a 100 pounder Parrott artillery shell. It weighs approximately 10.8 pounds and measures approximately 6 1/2 x 6 3/4 inches. The threads of the fuze adaptor hole are clearly visible and, according to Peter George, co-author of "Field Artillery Projectiles of the American Civil War", this shell would have used a standard zinc Parrott extra long-range time fuze plug or a zinc Parrott percussion type III fuze plug. This huge artillery fragment will display very nicely, especially when displayed with the appropriate fuze adaptor, and will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War artillery or general relic collection.
