This antique counter-top wood frame and glass display case is a beautiful old store fixture that was acquired from Rockbridge County, VA. It measures approximately 5 feet in length, 25 inches in width, and 13-1/2 inches in depth. Due to its size and glass panes, this item will be available for local pick-up only or, if delivery arrangements can be made. On the front is a small brass plaque that is stamped "F. X. GANTER / MANUFACTURER / BALTIMORE & NEW YORK". Francis X. Ganter, a German immigrant, began manufacturing display cases in 1876 in Baltimore, MD. To learn more about Ganter and Rockbridge County click on their respective links. The display case is in very good condition and appears to have all original glass with the exception of one of the top panes. The other top pane shows significant wear, likely a result of years of pocket change and store goods sliding across the surface. In the left rear corner of the top pane is a very small break that runs along the edge of the pane as indicated with an arrow in the very last image. There are two sliding wood panels on the rear of the case that allow access to the interior. One of the panels has a mirror on the interior side. The interior wood floor of the case is in beautiful condition. On the underside of the case floor in large black stenciled lettering is "F X. GANTER / SHOW CASES / BALTIMORE M.D." This old store fixture will not only display your Civil War relics and other treasures, but is also a wonderful antique itself, that will be the center piece for any family room, den, or office. Also, and more importantly, it will display all of those items you want seen but not necessarily touched by those curious little hands!
Please note: Free shipping does not apply to this item. Due to its size and its glass panes, shipping is not an option. Special arrangements would need to be made for pick-up or local delivery, provided arrangements can be made. Please contact me to discuss options.
