Item: Brass "Lion" Cuff Button
Backmark: Present but difficult to determine.
Design: Raised lion holding what appears to be a crown on a lined field.
Construction: Flat, one-piece.
Approximate size: 14 mm.
Condition: Excellent, excavated, secure shank present. Overall dusty green patina with ample gilt on both front and back. No cracks, breaks, bends or repairs.
Recovered: Amelia County, VA.
Comments: This fine button was acquired directly from the Virginia digger's family. Non-military buttons of this type, and other types are recovered at Civil War sites along with other Civil War military relics. It will be an excellent addition to any excavated button or general relic collection.
