This bullet in wood was recovered along Lee's retreat route in the area of Namozine Church in Amelia County, Virginia. The bullet is securely lodged within a chunk of wood. The current view of the bullet leaves it unidentifiable but it does have the heft and weight of a .58 caliber size bullet. The overall weight (bullet and wood) is a little over 1 ounce and its overall size is approximately 1 1/8 x 1 1/2 inches. It is my opinion that that part of the bullet that is visible is the distorted nose of the bullet with the bullet base and rings (if any) covered by remaining wood. This bullet in wood will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War bullet, battlefield or general relic collection.
