This excavated camp candle holder is in excellent condition and is constructed of iron. It still retains the pin which was used to secure the holder into any wooden object to support it, and its candle, providing enough light for the soldiers to see in the darkness of their campsite. It measures approximately 1.4 inches in diameter at the rim and 2.1 inches in length. An example of an excavated candle holder, just like this one, can be found pictured in the relic reference book "Civil War Artifacts" by Howard Crouch on page 41, item #7 and also in the fourth printing of Stanley S. Phillip's book "Excavated Artifacts From Battlefields and Campsites of The Civil War" on page 132 as item #1. This candle holder will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War campsite or general relic collection.
