Item: Cavalry "Crossed Sabers" Hat Insignia
Construction: Stamped thin sheet brass with soldered on wire loops.
Condition: Good, excavated, one of four wire attachment loops still remain. The brass has a greenish-brown patina with yellow soil remaining in several areas. There are a couple of cracks in one of a lower section of one the scabbards situated about halfway down and its drag is barely connected. Amazingly, it is still somewhat solidly attached with no movement, however, the device must still be handled with great care, if handled at all. The rest of the insignia is in good solid shape and can easily be handle by the sword grips. There is minor bending primarily in the lower drag sections. Other than attempts made by the digger to re-bend the device back into its original form, it has not been repaired.
Approximate size: 1-9/16 x 3-7/16 inch.
Recovered: Just west of Malvern Hill, VA.

Comments: This Cavalry hat insignia was acquired directly from the local Virginia digger who hunted the Seven Days Battles areas in the 1970s. A display case will be included with this insignia at no additional charge. These fragile devices are rarely recovered, and when they are, they are typically in multiple pieces. This example will be an excellent addition to any Civil War insignia, cavalry, uniform, or general relic collection.
