This colonial frame shoe buckle, constructed of brass and iron, was recovered in the Petersburg, VA area. The top of the buckle is nicely etched with some type of plant leaf and other designs all along the inner and outer edge as well as in the corners. The brass has aged into a beautiful deep green patina and while the middle iron bar is still present, the iron tang piece is no longer present. Approximately 1 3/4 x 2 1/4 inches.
