Item: Confederate 12 Pounder with Wood Fuze Plug
Construction: Cast iron.
Fuzing: Wood adaptor for paper time fuze.
Condition: Excellent, excavated. The iron is stable with an overall minimally pitted surface. Its original wood fuze plug is present and in good solid shape with wear commensurate for its age. A mold seam is visible at the shell's equator. Printed on one area in faded gold marker is "Port Republic, VA" indicating its recovery location. It has been treated with electrolysis and paraffin so as to preserve the iron and is ready for display. No repairs. The shell is no longer active and is ready for display.
Approximate size: Weight: 7.8 pounds. Diameter: 4.51 inches.
Recovered: Port Republic, VA
Comments: This Confederate shell, recovered with its wood fuze plug, was acquired directly from the digger and will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War artillery or general relic collection.
