Item: Confederate 6-Pounder Case-Shot Shell with Bormann Time Fuze
Gun: 6-pounder smoothbore, 3.67-inch caliber.
Fuzing: Confederate copy of the Bormann time fuze.
Approximate size: Weight: 5.6 pounds. Diameter: 4.42 inches.
Condition: Good, excavated, fired. The surface of the shell has moderate pitting and a visible mold seam. Its Bormann time-fuze is present and appears to have been punched at about the 3-second mark (see Comments section below) and a few of the hash-marks are visible as indicated in the additional close-up images. Both shell and fuze have been lightly clear coated for preservation. It has been deactivated and is ready for display. No repairs.

Comments: Even though the fuze on this example was punched and the shell fired, it did not explode. Now deactivated, this Confederate 6-pounder case-shot shell with Bormann time fuze will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War artillery or general relic collection.
