Item: Confederate Army Officer Coat Button
Backmark: Blank with depressed channel.
Construction: Convex, two-piece.
Approximate size: 25 mm.
Condition: Very good, excavated, secure shank present. Brown patina with ample gilt. There is a moderate push to the center front. The rear, with its stand-up shank and gilt in the channel, is in excellent shape. There are no cracks, breaks, or repairs.
Recovered: Fredericksburg, VA area.

Comments: According to "Uniform Buttons of the United States 1776-1865" by Warren K. Tice, "Perhaps Wildt & Kline made these buttons." This button will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War button or general relic collection.
