Item: Confederate Carbine Sling Buckle - Non-Excavated Rare Small Type
Construction: Cast brass. Center belt loop bar with two brass tongues.
Condition: Very good, non-excavated. The brass has a smooth very pleasing dark brown patina with some lighter brass areas believed to be from wear and primarily visible on the rear. Both of the long, slender belt attachment tongues are present on the center bar but do not move freely, however, they will move with enough pressure. There are no cracks, breaks, bends or repairs.
Approximate size: 52 x 69 mm.
Comments: These small size CS carbine buckles are indeed quite difficult to come by. While over my lifetime, I have handled only two other Confederate sling buckles of this exact type and size, and they were both excavated. I have never had the opportunity to offer a non-excavated example but now I able to. Perhaps you have a Confederate carbine sling that needs a buckle? This one will be an excellent addition to any Civil War carbine buckle, carbine rifle, plate, or general relic collection.
