Confederate Combination Gun Tool

SOLD

This excavated Confederate combination gun tool is in good condition and is a classic example of tools manufactured at the Richmond Armory.  The tool is "T" shaped with a main wrench body that has a 1/4 inch socket at one end and a pivoting cross handle at its other. The handle has screwdriver blades at either end. Similar examples of this tool can be found in the following reference books:

  • "GUN TOOLS - Their History & Identification" 1992 edition by James B. Schaffer, Lee A. Rutledge, and R. Stephen Dorsey, on page 163.
  • "Civil War Artifacts" by Howard Crouch on page 97, item 5.
  • "Excavated Artifacts from Battlefields and Campsites of The Civil War" by Stanley S. Phillips on page 176 as item 4.
  • "C.S. Armory Richmond", by Paul Davies, page 100.

See scans of the three of the above pages in the additional images.

The main body measures approximately 2-5/8 inches in length and its cross handle is approximately 2-3/8 inches in length. The socket interior measures approximately 1/4 inch x 1/4 inch. This Confederate made relic will be an excellent addition to any Civil War gun tool, firearm, or general relic collection.
