Item: Confederate Engineer Coat Button - Rarely Excavated
Backmark: " * H T & B * / MANCHESTER" dm
Design: Stippled old English "E" on a plain field.
Construction: Convex, two-piece
Approximate size: 25 mm.
Condition: Very good, excavated, shank present. The button's surface has a purple-brown patina with areas of a thin layer of a yellow-green mossy coating. There is a slight push to the center front. There is slight movement of the shank but it is secure to rear. No cracks, breaks, or repairs.
Recovered: November 14, 2021 in the North Anna, VA area.

Comments: This rare excavated Engineer coat button was acquired directly from the digger and will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War button or general relic collection.
