This excavated Confederate "beveled-edge" frame waist belt buckle is in excellent condition and was recovered In Culpeper County, VA the area of Cole's Hill (Cole's Hill was the site of a Union signal station in 1862-1863 - Click the preceding Cole's Hill link to view it on map in lower right corner). The brass has aged into a very pleasing even dark brown-green patina. Their thick heavy cast brass construction made these waist belt buckles the work horse for Confederate troops. It measures at a noticeably smaller size of approximately 55 x 63 mm. This example has no cracks, breaks, bends, or repairs and will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War buckle or general relic collection.
