Item: Confederate Script Infantry Button - William Bird Company of London
Backmark: Blank with three circles
Construction: Convex, two-piece. Raised script "I" with stippling.
Approximate size: 23 mm.
Condition: Excellent, non-excavated, secure shank present. No pushes, cracks, breaks, or repairs.
Comments: According to the button reference book "Uniform Buttons Of The United States 1776-1865" by Warren K. Tice, these buttons, manufactured by William Bird Co / London, "is one of the rarest of all British-made Confederate letter buttons, especially in non-dug condition. Any variation should be considered rare." This rare button will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War button or general relic collection.
