Confederate Sword Hanger

This excavated Confederate sword hanger is in very good condition and was recovered in the Petersburg, VA area. It is constructed of cast brass which now has a nice brown-green patina. It measures approximately 1-1/2 x 2-1/2 inches. These devices hung from the leather sword belt and were designed to carry the officer's swords. Similar examples of sword hangers, both CS and US, can be found in the following Civil War relic reference books:
