Item: Confederate Time Fuze Adaptor for Rifled Projectile.
Construction: Cast copper.
Use: To support a paper time fuze while also forming a tight seal. The two spanner holes, visible on the top of the adaptor and to either side of the center hole, accommodated a wrench used to screw the device into the shell. Once the adaptor was in place, a paper time fuze, would be inserted into the center hole.
Approximate size: Head diameter: 1.25 inches; Length: 1.88 inches; 12 threads per inch.
Condition: Good, excavated. Dusty green surface patina. A small portion of its paper time fuse is still visibly lodged in place. There is mild denting and distortion but is otherwise complete. There are no cracks, breaks, or repairs.
Recovered: Cedar Creek, VA area.

Comments: This adaptor was acquired directly from a local Shenandoah Valley Virginia digger, and it will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War artillery or general relic collection.
