CS "Virginia Style" Two-Piece Buckle Tongue Disc

SOLD

This relic is the disc portion of a Confederate "Virginia Style" two-piece belt plate and was recovered by a local relic hunter from a farm field in Bottom's Bridge, VA. It is constructed of cast red brass with a high copper content in its alloy. The disc, with the raised letters "CS" with exaggerated serifs, has a very pleasing dusty deep green patina with no cracks, bends, or repairs. In my opinion, if you are going to recover only a portion of a Confederate belt buckle, then this is the portion to recover! An example of this plate can be found in Steve Mullinax's book "Confederate Belt Buckles and Plates", 1st edition, on page 10 as plate 6 (also in the "Expanded Edition" of same book on page 12, plate 6).  This disc will display quite well in any excavated Civil War buckle or general relic collection.
