Thanks to a kind individual who recently visited this page, this excavated half cut copper coin dated 1744, has now been identified as a British George II Farthing. The obverse shows King George II facing left surrounded by the legend "GEORGIVS . II . REX .". The reverse shows a seated figure of Britannia with trident in hand, a shield bearing the Union flag resting on the left, the date of 1744, and the legend "BRITAN NIA.". Its value at the time of its production was 1/4 penny. Originally it measured 23 mm in diameter. It was recovered by a Virginia relic hunter and will be an excellent addition to any excavated coin or general relic collection.
