Item: Excavated US eagle plate.
Construction: Stamped thin sheet brass with solder fill and two iron wire loops.
Condition: Excellent. Its brass face has a dark brown, almost black, patina with some light-yellow soil nicely high-lighting a well-defined eagle, clutching arrows in its right talon and an olive branch in its left. The rear has a full complement of solder with both iron attachment loops that are in good condition. The plate has a very slight body wave which is nearly unnoticeable. The plate has no cracks, breaks, repairs, or major bends.
Comments: This plate will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War plate or general relic collection.
Recovered: Unknown
Approximate diameter: 64 mm.
