Item: Excavated US eagle plate.
Construction: Stamped thin sheet brass with solder fill and two iron wire loops.
Condition: Excellent, excavated. Its brass face has an even chocolate brown patina over a highly detailed, well-defined eagle clutching arrows in its right talon and an olive branch in its left. There are a few specks of green in areas on the face and a very small dent, with slight bend, in the rim that is nearly unnoticeable from the front view. The rear has a full complement of solder with both iron attachment loops that are solid and complete. The plate has no cracks, breaks, bends, or repairs.
Recovered: Brooke, VA in Stafford County.
Approximate diameter: 63 mm.
Comments: This very handsome eagle plate was purchased directly from the digger and, if its quality you are after, then this eagle plate will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War plate or general relic collection.
