Item: Excavated US eagle plate.
Construction: Stamped thin sheet brass with solder fill.
Condition: Good, excavated. Its brass face has a green, reddish-brown patina, showing an eagle, clutching arrows in its right talon and an olive branch in its left. There are rust bumps at the eagle's beak and two in the area of his right talon. The rear solder is nearly complete but the two iron attachment loops are no longer present. There is some minor bending but otherwise, it has no cracks, breaks, repairs, or major bends.
Recovered: Brandy Station, VA
Approximate diameter: 65 mm.
Comments: This eagle breast plate will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War plate or general relic collection.
