Item: Excavated US eagle plate.
Construction: Stamped thin sheet brass with solder fill and iron attachment loops.
Condition: Good, excavated, solid. Its brass face has a mixed brown patina with a detailed eagle clutching arrows in its right talon and an olive branch in its left. There is a small rust bump on the eagle's left talons. The rear solder has a complete complement of solder with one complete attachment loop and a portion of the other. There is a very slight period bend at the rim near the complete loop, but otherwise, it has no cracks, breaks, repairs, or major bends.
Recovered: Unknown
Approximate diameter: 63 mm.
Comments: This eagle breast plate will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War plate or general relic collection.
