Item: Eagle Plate with Carved Initials "J.K"
Construction: Stamped thin sheet brass with solder fill and two iron wire loops.
Condition: Excellent, excavated. Its brass face has aged into an even brown patina over a detailed eagle clutching arrows in its right talon and an olive branch in its left. The rear has a full complement of solder with both iron attachment loops that are complete and straight-up. In the rear solder are the letters "J.K" carved into the solder presumably by the soldier who proudly wore the plate. The plate has no cracks, breaks, bends, or repairs.
Recovered: April 1975, Groveton, VA
Approximate diameter: 64 mm.
Comments: If it's a high quality relic with a personal touch that you are after, then this eagle plate will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War plate or general relic collection.
