Item: Excavated US Eagle Plate
Construction: Stamped thin sheet brass with lead fill.
Condition: Fair. The brass face has a deep green patina with a coating of Culpeper County soil. It appears that the plate was struck by a round object given the contoured shape of the inward push in the face. The rim is complete with the exception of one small break. The rear lead is nearly complete however the wire attachment loops are missing. The plate has not been repaired.
Recovered: Culpeper County, VA
Approximate size: 65 mm (diameter varies due to condition)
Comments: The plate is being offered in nearly the same state that it was in when it was recovered, as the digger did not feel compelled to clean his relics. If you like the recently "dug" appearance, then this relic will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War buckle or general relic collection.
