Item: Excavated US eagle plate.
Construction: Stamped thin sheet brass with solder fill.
Condition: Good. Its brass face has a brown patina moderately coated with a layer of yellow soil and shows a detailed eagle, clutching arrows in its right talon and an olive branch in its left. The rear solder is nearly complete with some minor loss in a few areas of the rim and the two iron attachment loops are no longer present. There is a wave in the plate but otherwise, it has no cracks, breaks, repairs or major bends.
Comments: This eagle plate will be an excellent relic to display as well a very nice addition to any excavated Civil War plate or general relic collection.
Recovered: Wilderness, VA area.
Approximate diameter: 65 mm.
