Pattern 1853 Enfield Rifle Musket Barrel

SOLD

This excavated pattern 1853 Enfield rifle-musket barrel is in very good condition and was recovered in 1968 from the end of a trench, Union line, north side of Totopotomoy Creek, Hanover County, VA.  The barrel is unbent and has an overall approximate length of 40-1/8 inches. The barrel measures 39 inches. Its breech plug, original nipple, front and rear sights are present. The rear sight is fixed in its upright, or raised, position and was recovered as such. This clearly provides the "cool factor" to this relic. Only a portion of the breech plug tang is present. On the bottom side of the barrel are two areas where the digger applied his catalogue or inventory mark using black lettering on what is believed to be "White-Out". This can likely be removed with the application of a bit of acetone. Included in the additional images of the barrel is an image of the digger's index card indicating, in most cases, the button's identification, assessment of condition, recovery date & location, and other general information. In cases where there are discrepancies between the digger's description and Virginia Relic's description, Virginia Relic's description shall be deemed correct. This barrel will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War firearm, battlefield, campsite, or general relic collection.
