This pair of non-excavated brass epaulettes, with their matching aged brass patina, are in very good solid condition. Epaulettes were worn on the shoulders of enlisted men and were designed to protect the soldier from saber strikes. Many were tossed by soldiers due to the fact that they were shiny, thereby making them easy targets. While this pair includes their scale buttons, they are missing the rear coat attachment bars. There is some very minor bending in the body and denting in the upper portion of both epaulettes. They each measure approximately 3-7/8 x 6-3/8 inches and have no cracks, breaks, or repairs. This fine pair of epaulettes will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War uniform, campsite, or general relic collection.
