Item: Federal 2.9-Inch Read-Parrott Shell - High Quality
Cannon: 10-pounder Parrott rifle, 2.9-inch caliber.
Approximate diameter: 2.87 inches
Approximate length: 8-1/2 inches
Approximate weight: 9.4 pounds
Fuzing: Zinc fuze adaptor for paper time fuze.
Sabot: Pre-rifled wrought iron tapered ring.
Condition: Excellent, excavated. The shell's iron surface is smooth with minimal pitting. Its fuze adaptor is present and printed in gold marker on the base of the shell is "NARROW PASSAGE / VA". It has been deactivated and treated with electrolysis and paraffin so as to preserve the iron. There are no repairs and is ready for display.
Recovered: Narrow Passage, VA. area.
Comments: This Read-Parrott shell was acquired directly from the digger and will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War artillery or general relic collection.
