Federal 3-Inch Schenkl "Case-Shot" Artillery Shell

Item: Federal 3-Inch Schenkl "Case-Shot" Artillery Shell
Gun: 3-inch wrought iron (ordnance) rifle.
Fuzing: Zinc Schenkl combination percussion & time.
Construction: Cast iron.
Approximate size: Weight: 9.4 pounds. Diameter: 2.94 inches, Length: 9 inches.  
Condition: Very good, excavated, deactivated. The surface is smooth and minimally pitted. Remnants of the combination percussion and time fuze are visible in the nose of the shell. Its papier-mâché sleeve sabot is no longer present as is typical for excavated examples. It has been treated with electrolysis, has no repairs and is ready for display.  
Recovered: Seven Days Battles area.
