Item: Federal 3-Inch Schenkl Shell
Gun: 3-inch ordnance rifle.
Fuzing: Brass Schenkl percussion fuze.
Construction: Cast iron.
Approximate size: Weight: 8.4 pounds; Diameter: 2.94 inches; Length: 9 inches.
Condition: Excellent, excavated. The shell is still in its raw state and is stable with nearly no pitting. Its brass fuze is present with "J. P. SCHENKL / PAT. OCT. 16, 1861" stamped into the top and its papier-mâché sleeve sabot is no longer present as is typical for excavated examples. No repairs. It has been deactivated and is ready for display.
