This US model 1864 percussion cap box, carried on the soldiers belt, is in very good condition and is marked by both the manufacturer and inspector. The outer flap is lightly stamped "R. WHITE / U.S ORD.DEPt / SUB INSPECTOR". The interior flap is also stamped "S. H. YOUNG & CO. / NEWARK N.J." however, some of the letters are missing due to an uneven stamping. The box includes its wool and pick. The stitching is in great shape and the pouch ears are present. The surface leather shows some cracking and crazing. The rear belt loops and closure tab are complete and in very good condition. The brass finial is present. This cap box will make an excellent addition to any Civil War cap box, campsite, or general relic collection.
