Backmark: Undetermined, but believed to be "SCOVILLS".
Design: Spread-wing eagle with letter "D" in shield.
Construction: Low convex, two-piece.
Approximate size: 19.5 mm.
Condition: Good, excavated, missing shank. The button shows wear and has a brown patina. While the images of this button show the front design with some clarity, the design is slightly less visible under normal room lighting. It has no pushes, cracks or repairs.
Recovered: Amelia County, VA.

Comments: This Federal Dragoon coat button was acquired directly from the family of the local Virginia digger, and it will be an excellent example addition to any Civil War button or general relic collection.
