Comments: According to "Uniform Buttons of the United States 1776-1865", by Warren K. Tice, regarding this classification of buttons, "Artistically made buttons like these are examples of the best work done by Steele & Johnson around 1860. They were probably intended for officers, or were private purchase items. At least two separate die variants are known to collectors." This US infantry button with bachelor ring will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War button or general relic collection.
