Item: Federal Infantry Cuff Button
Backmark: Blank
Description: The device shows a symmetrical eagle, with upraised wing and an "I" shield on its breast.
Construction: Convex, two-piece.
Approximate size: 14 mm.
Condition: Good, excavated, secure shank present but slightly loose. This button has a dark brown patina. It has no pushes, cracks, breaks, or repairs.
Recovered: During the 1970s from the Petersburg, VA area.
Reference: Tice: Unl. Albert: Unl.
Comments: The interesting feature of this button is the eagle's feathers. Unlike eagle feathers found on other Federal Infantry buttons, the individual feathers, on this example, are unusually spaced apart. This cuff button was acquired directly from the digger and will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War button or general relic collection.
