Item: Federal Naval Watercap Fuze - Dated 1862
Construction: Cast brass.
Use: Detonation device for naval shell.
Approximate size:
 Head diameter: 1.27 inches. Length: 2.46 inches.
Condition:
 Very good, excavated. Stamped on its top end is "ORD D (anchor) / 1862". Its surface has a very pleasing light aqua-green patina. Its outer bushing is present while its water cap is missing. The outer threads appear to be in fair condition with few flaws. Some soil corrosion build-up is present on its interior primarily where the watercap would be at the top of the fuze. There are no cracks, breaks, dents, or repairs.
Recovered:
 Williamsburg, VA area.
