Federal picket pins were used in the field to secure horses when at rest. This excavated example was acquired directly from the digger who recovered it from Frederick County, MD. It is constructed of wrought iron, is complete and in overall very good condition. There is a slight bend towards the pointed end. Its ring is present and measures approximately 14 inches in length and weighs 1.2 pounds. It has been treated with electrolysis and paraffin so as to preserve the iron.
