This excavated medium size US spur is a unique fancy example in design. It is the actual example pictured in Howard R. Crouch's "American Spurs" reference book, published 1998, on page 40, US 16. Crouch notes "at first glance this would appear to be a standard enlisted spur but it bears light cast-in foliate designs on the body and a decorative brass rowel". Constructed of brass, it is complete with an overall light and dark green patina. Along the strap arms extending from its neck to the strap plates are the cast-in foliate designs. Its brass rowel is present and freely spins. An image of the page from the above mentioned book, showing this spur and its description, is included in the additional images. It measures approximately 3-3/16 x 4-3/4 inches. The spur has no cracks, breaks, or repairs and will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War spur, cavalry, or general relic collection.
