This US sword belt plate is in very good condition and was recovered off Dispatch Road in Quinton, VA. It is numbered "944" on its rear belt attachment tongue. The face of these plates show an eagle clutching arrows and an olive branch in its talons. The nickel-silver applied wreath that once adorned the front, is no longer present as is the case with so many excavated examples. The plate has a very pleasing deep green patina and a slight wave, but has no cracks, breaks, or repairs and will be an excellent addition to any Civil War belt plate or general relic collection. Approx. 52 x 87 mm.
