Item: Georgia State Seal Cuff Button - Local
Backmark: Blank
Design: Georgia state seal displaying three pillars with banners, supporting an arch, and a militia man to the side of one pillar.
Construction: High convex, two-piece.
Approximate size: 15 mm.
Condition: Very good, non-excavated, secure shank present. Very pleasing bronzy-brown patina. The button has no pushes, cracks, breaks, or repairs.
Reference: Albert: GA 7As; Tice: GA218As1
Comments: The Georgia state seal was adopted by their state legislature in 1799. According to "Uniform Buttons of the United States 1776-1865" by Warren K. Tice: "These are the only Georgia Confederate locals known to exist in small size." and "Like most cuff size Confederate locals, GA218As1 are particularly scarce." This button will be an excellent addition to any Civil War button or general relic collection.
