This excavated horse harness heart martingale is in very good condition and is constructed of sheet brass with solder fill. It was acquired directly from the digger who recovered it from Baltimore County, MD. The brass face of this device has a deep green patina with a few reddish areas. There is a tiny bit of rim damage at the bottom near the tip with a couple of hairline fractures which are visible with a light and a magnifier. The rear has a complete complement of solder and is missing its four attachment pins. The device has no bends, repairs, or other cracks. It measures approximately 1-3/4 inches from top to bottom and 1-3/4 inches wide. This martingale will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War cavalry, campsite, battlefield, or general relic collection.
