Model 1859 "J.E.B. Stuart" Detachable Sword Hanger - Marked "US" / "Frankford Arsenal"

SOLD

This Model 1859 "J.E.B. Stuart" detachable sword hanger is a rare find. This design was patented by J.E.B. Stuart in 1859 who then sold the rights to the US government. This hanger was recovered in Albemarle County, VA and acquired directly from the digger. The spring hinged clip portion is clearly stamped "FRANKFORD ARSENAL". The hanger portion is stamped with letters "US" in Old English. It has a dusty green patina and, other than a bend in the tang, is in very good condition. It has no cracks or repairs. This example will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War sword or general relic collection.
