Item: Excavated Kentucky Military Institute Button
Backmark:

Construction: Convex, two-piece.
Approximate size: 21 mm.
Condition: Excellent, excavated, secure shank present. The button has a smooth brown patina. There is enough gilt remaining nicely highlighting the two men shaking hands. The letters "KMI" are present but difficult to see. See the additional images. There are no pushes, cracks, breaks, or repairs.
Recovered:  Orange County, VA

Comments: The Kentucky Military Institute produced cadets that fought for both sides of the Civil War. This button was acquired directly from the digger and will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War button or general relic collection.
