Item: Large Company Letter C - Silvered Cast Brass
Construction: Cast brass.
Condition: Excellent, excavated, all three attachment prongs present. The brass has a brown patina still partially covered with a silver wash. The rim is complete and without issues. The lower arm has a very slight inward bend near the tip and mentioned for accuracy. The letter is in solid shape with no cracks, breaks or repairs.
Recovered: Berryville, VA
Approximate size: 1-3/8 x 1-7/16 inch; 6.43 grams.

Comments: This cast brass letter "C" is larger and heavier than the standard Federal company hat letters which are constructed of thin stamped brass and are smaller measuring approximately 1 x 1 inch and weighing only 1.24 grams. Given this letter's size and attachment type, instead of being displayed on a hat, it was likely affixed to a cartridge box. It was acquired directly from the digger and will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War insignia or general relic collection.
