Item: Mann's Patent Belt Plate - High Quality
Construction: Die struck brass, bent into shape.
Condition: Excellent, excavated. The brass has a rich brown patina. No cracks, breaks, bends or repairs.
Recovered: Petersburg, VA area.
Approximate size: 36 x 58 mm.
Comments: According to O'Donnell and Campbell's "American Military Belt Plates" reference book, "A simple waist belt plate that accompanied a series of cavalry and infantry cartridge boxes designed by William Mann of Detroit, Michigan. While serving as Colonel of the 7th Michigan Cavalry, he secured his first patent on December 8,1863." This unusual belt plate will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War plate or general relic collection.
