Item: Militia Panel Plate Waist Belt Buckle 1855-1865
Construction: Die-struck rolled brass with applied brass tongue.
Design: The front shows a well-defined spread wing eagle clutching arrows in its left talons with an olive branch in its right talons. Surrounding the eagle at is border is a wreath and twelve stars.
Condition: Very good, non-excavated, missing tangs. The brass has a very pleasing dark toned patina. A very tiny crack/hole appears in the rim at the 12 o'çlock position. The rear retains its brass tongue and belt attachment bar. There are no bends or repairs.
Approximate size: 56 x 81 mm.

Comments: This buckle will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War buckle, plate or general relic collection.
