This excavated US Model 1861 rifle musket lock was recovered from Antietam, MD area. It is constructed of iron with the hammer frozen in the cocked position as found. The iron is in its "as recovered" state as it does not appear to have been treated, however it is stable. It measures approximately 5-1/2 inches in length and is 2-3/4 inches in height. Several mechanism parts on the rear side are visible.
