Item: North Carolina State Seal Coat Button - Silvered
Backmark: Blank channel.
Design: According to "Uniform Buttons of the United States 1776-1865" by Warren K. Tice, “The North Carolina seal and coat of arms depict the female figures of "Liberty" and "Plenty". The former holds a liberty pole with her right hand and a scroll inscribed "CONSTITUTION" with her left. "Plenty" grasps a cornucopia in her left hand and wheat with her right." In an arc at the rim above the seal is "NORTH CAROLINA."
Construction: Convex, two-piece.
Approximate size: 23 mm.
Condition: Very good, excavated, shank missing. Silver wash over a brown patina. There is a small dent at the nine o'clock position of the rim. There are no cracks, or repairs.
Recovered: Spotsylvania County, VA area.

Comments: Silvered examples are not often recovered, and this button will be an excellent addition to any Civil War button or general relic collection.
